Regional Session Salzburg 2023 cancelled

Dear Delegates/Members/Participants,

It is our sad responsibility to inform you that the Regional Session Salzburg 2023 will not be taking place. We regret confirming that the event has been indefinitely cancelled due to a variety of reasons but primarily a lack of funding.

As the Board of EYP Austria it is our responsibility to have the long-term interest of our organisation in mind. Sadly, this sometimes means making undesirable decisions for individual events in order to ensure the financial stability of the organisation as a whole, not only for now but also for the future. This is in no way a reflection of the people responsible for the event but rather of an ongoing difficulty in securing significant funding for large scale projects such as the RS Salzburg 2023.

Nevertheless, deciding to cancel a large-scale, in-person event such as a Regional Session is never a desirable outcome and not one we ever wanted to have to make. It took the Board of EYP Austria and the Advisory Board many long nights and discussions to conclude that even with much internal restructuring, executing this Regional Session would put the organisation and its financial future at considerable risk. Therefore, together with the Leadership of RS Salzburg 2023 as well as with their individual teams, we have concluded that the Session is officially cancelled.

We hereby want to express our utmost gratitude to all the people that had already put in so much time and effort to create the Regional Session Salzburg 2023. This includes our Head-Organiser Oliver, the President Nina, the Vice-Presidents Seoyoung and Arslan, the Core-Organisers Liza, Selina and Natalia, as well as the Organisers and the Chairpersons. It saddens us deeply that their work will not be able to come to fruition the way it was intended to and we will work to ensure that situations like these can be prevented in the future.

Once again we thank you for your participation in the Session up to this point and we hope to see you at other events of the European Youth Parliament in the future, either in Austria or somewhere in Europe and beyond. Please feel free to contact the Board directly if you may have further questions or concerns.

Yours sincerely,

The Board of EYP Austria

Regional Session Vienna 2023 took place

Under the motto “PeacEfUl Collaboration – a European Union without Boundaries”, 90 young people from Austria and Europe gathered for the Regional Session Vienna 2023 from 16 to 19 February 2023. Within various thematic fields, they discussed perspectives of European policy-making that aim to promote an inclusive and prosperous network of states.

The Teambuilding and Committee Work days of the Session took place at the Hans-Mandl-Berufsschule located in Viennas 12th district and the General Assembly was hosted at the Kuppelsaal of the TU Wien the Technical University of Vienna. We are very thankful to have collaborated with such generous institutions.

Another highlight of the session was undoubtedly the Panel Talk which took place on Friday 17 February at the Juridicum Vienna and included four experts who discussed the topic of “Media as the fourth pillar of democracy”. The Q&A round offered participants the chance to converse directly with our panel and ask all their most burning questions. Thank you to Dr Klaus Unterberger (ORF), Dr Wolfgang Renner (Wiener Zeitung), Julia Partheymüller (Professor for Poltical Science at the University of Vienna) and Lukas Burnar (Redaktion Andererseits) for taking part in the event and for sharing their views with us.

Overall the session was a great success, introducing a new generation of students to our network and giving many first-time Officials the chance to develop their skills as Chairpersons, Media Team Members, Jury Members of Organisers.

We want to thank each and every person who invested their time and effort into making the Regional Session Vienna 2023 a reality and especially our Head-Organiser Todor Lankov, his Organising Team and the Board Members responsible for the event, Lisa Weinberger and Elena Szegedi!

Support the earthquake victims in Türkiye and Syria

The earthquake that took place in the early hours of Monday has caused the tragic loss of human lives and destruction across Türkiye, Syria and other countries.

We, on behalf of the EYP network, express our deepest condolences to all victims affected.

Our thoughts are with EYP Türkiye, their members and loved ones. Urgent help is still needed, so we ask the international and EYP community to support in any way they can, by donating to NGOs operating in the affected zones as well as disaster and emergency management with financial aid, or just by reaching out to individuals you know may be affected. A little kindness goes a long way.

Please check on your fellow EYPers and show solidarity. If you wish to support via donation, you can find ways to do so here.
