National Session Vienna 2022 took place

Under the motto “Overcoming Challenges – Designing Tomorrow”, 120 young people from Austria and Europe gathered for the National Session Vienna 2022 from 29 April to 2 May. Within various thematic fields, they discussed perspectives of European policy-making that are not relegated to operating in crisis mode but instead design a truly desirable future.

A special concern of the organising team was the sustainability of the event, which was expressed in walking-only distances between the meeting venues, resource-saving food and the minimisation and reuse of materials.

We are particularly proud to have hosted an official event of the European Year of Youth with the Vienna National Session. In the course of a Civil Society Evening, a direct link was also established with civil society organisations and initiatives in Austria to give the participants a comprehensive picture of active citizenship.

In the run-up to the event, a cooperation with the organisation Politikos – Wir müssen reden! (We need to talk!) was set up. The topics of the session were presented to a broad audience in jointly developed social media posts that were designed to be as accessible as possible.

A speech by US Ambassador Victoria Kennedy at the beginning of the General Assembly emphasised the necessity of the ongoing struggle for democracy. It stood symbolically for the importance of foreign policy relations with partners with the same values, especially in view of the war in Ukraine, and gave emphasis to the aim of the session and the European Youth Parliament as a whole.

Further information about the event can also be found on the session website.
