Europäisches Jugendparlament Österreich (kurz: EYP)

The European Youth Parliament has been a forum for discussion and reflection for European youth on European policies for more than 20 years. In this way, they contribute to building tomorrow’s Europe. I wish them all continued success.

With the endorsement week for three petitions (Volksbegehren) from 18 to 25 January having just started in Austria, we would like to draw your attention to the chance to commit active citizenship!
Austrian citizens who are 16 or older can sign these petitions either online via oesterreich.gv.at (requiring a phone signature or citizen card) or in any municipality, regardless of their place of residence.
If they receive 100 000 signatures, the petitions in question („Tierschutzvolksbegehren – Animal Welfare Petition“, „Für Impf-Freiheit – For Vaccination Freedom“, „Ethik für Alle – Ethics for all“) will be handed to the National Assembly, where they will be the subject of a plenary debate.
Currently, there are also twelve* petitions in the support phase – if they receive 8 401 statements of support, they will also get an endorsement week.
For further information, we compiled a Drive folder with relevant information in German and English – make sure to check it out and make your voice heard next week!
*Three new petitions started their support phase on the day of publication, which is why they are not yet mentioned in our information material.

As avid radio listeners might know, Ö1, perhaps Austria’s most prestigious public radio station, has started an initiative called “Reparatur der Zukunft” (“Repairing the Future”) in which they are looking for ideas, concepts and projects that “detect problems and provide solutions for them”, including the areas of democracy and participation.
According to our understanding, EYP fits that description quite well, so we created a video to be eligible for the project and have since been approached by Ö1 for an interview! We got the chance to present our concept to a radio journalist and will be featured in a four-minute radio report about our organisation that will be broadcast on Wednesday, 1 April 9:30 – we invite you to tune in!
There will also be a listening party on the day, starting at 9:15. This is the link to join the Zoom meeting: https://us04web.zoom.us/j/437073557
Participating in this initiative also gives us the chance of being viable for lots of other cool stuff, like coaching from university experts or even invitations to the European Forum Alpbach.
Here’s the project website on which you can find the video we submitted, as well as all other projects that are participating in the initiative:
The website also features the online player of the radio station, so you can also listen to the programme directly from there; content can be relistened for seven days!
