Digital Humanism Summer School 2023

We live in a “digital” world, the separation between physical and virtual makes (almost) no sense anymore. Here, the Corona pandemic has also acted as an accelerator/magnifier demonstrating that the future of our digital society is here with all its possibilities, but also shortcomings. Digital Humanism looks at this interplay of technology and human, it analyzes, and, most importantly, tries to influence the complex interplay of technology and humankind, for a better society and life. We recognize the need of an interdisciplinary approach, integrating humanities, social, technical and engineering sciences; we need to cross different disciplines and to break down disciplinary silos.

The Digital Humanism Summer School is a multi-day, interdisciplinary event that will take place from September 4 to 8, 2023 at TU Wien, Austria. Following the highly successful first edition in Vienna in 2021, the second Digital Humanism Summer School is again organized by the Faculty of Informatics of TU Wien in cooperation with the TU Wien Center for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (CAIML) and the Digital Enlightenment Forum. The aim of the summer school is to provide a platform to discuss and develop important topics related to Digital Humanism, such as generative AI, participation and democracy, digital policy and sovereignty, the role of platforms in the economy, data protection, AI and ethics, and fair systems. The speakers are internationally recognized experts from the fields of computer science, social sciences, and humanities.

We are happy to be able to offer our members the opportunity to take part in such an exclusive event! For more information please click here!

If you are interested please contact Emily Usner via info@eyp.at
Please be advised that spaces are limited.

United Nations University Masters Program

We hereby present to you the United Nations University- Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology (UNU-MERIT) to inform you about the Master program they offer that might be of interest to our members and alumni.

UNU-MERIT is a research and training institute of the United Nations University (UNU) which collaborates closely with Maastricht University. UNU-MERIT aims to advance societal policy and innovation research, provide education and mobilise knowledge to unlock the full potential of innovation for achieving inclusive, sustainable development. As a part of our education activities, we offer a dual-degree MSc in Public Policy and Human Development (MPP) in cooperation with Maastricht University.

Our one-year intensive MPP programme, delivered in English, aims to create an environment where students can understand good governance and develop the skills to be effective policy designers through small-scale tutorial groups, diverse student cohorts and problem-based learning.  Whilst doing so, we allow the students to delve into a certain policy field with our five specializations:

  • Social Protection Policy (in cooperation with ILO)
  • Migration Studies
  • Risk & Vulnerability (in cooperation with UNU-EHS)
  • Governance of Innovation
  • Global Governance for Development

Now that our applications for the 2023-2024 academic year are open, we are looking for prospective students interested in tackling complex policy problems to contribute to achieving equitable, inclusive and sustainable development.

Please note that our applications for EU students close on the 15th of July.

Interested students can find information about the program and its admission procedure on our website: https://www.merit.unu.edu/training/msc-in-public-policy-and-human-development/ Alternatively, they can also join the online Q&A session on the 17 May by registering via the link:  https://maastrichtuniversity.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9QOg8so5ntAcU7Q
